Laboratory Shake Table Testing at ISE

ISE houses a complete dynamic analysis laboratory consisting of an APS Dynamics long stroke shake table, capable of small-scale modal analysis and seismic testing from DC to approximately 200 Hz. Our table is capable of recreating complex waveforms at up to 50 pounds peak force, or a velocity up to 1000 mm/s over 160 mm of linear travel. We have assisted our clients in measuring the response characteristics of specimens for research, aviation, space, military and general civil engineering applications. This table is also used to calibrate every piece of dynamics equipment ISE owns.

Past applications for which clients have found our services useful include:

  • Dynamic response characterization.
  • Fatigue testing.
  • Product and prototype testing.
  • Scientific research and investigations.
  • Forensic investigations.

ISE's physical science laboratory is traceable to standards set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). We maintain our own Rubidium atomic time and frequency standard accurate to 10-10 seconds.

Featured Video Clip (Shock Wave)

A video taken by ISE showing the supersonic expansion of high pressure natural gas in a pipeline.

The shock wave is clearly visible at the 1:00 min mark as a white cloud above the end of the pipe and produces an acoustic overpressure of close to 140 dB - which is as loud as a rocket engine.
